Description Paul and Susi Childers founded photogenX International in 2005. You can read their biographies and more on www.photogenx.net. The vision of photogenX is to use photography and the arts as tools for cultural transformation so that global injustice issues will be issues of history instead of the future. photogenX advocates for those who cannot speak for themselves and challenges the current global status quo. In addition photogenX seeks to capture the people and places of every nation in the world showing off their beauty but not masking their pain. The photogenX DTS First things first, It is a Youth With A Mission Discipleship Training School. The Discipleship Training School (DTS) is designed to help you grow in understanding of God's character, live more like Jesus and identify your unique gifts and purpose to use in missions. It is an intensive, residential training course that begins with a 12-week lecture phase, followed by an 8-12 week outreach (usually overseas). The DTS emphasizes cross-cultural exposure and global awareness, preparing students to answer the call to "Go into all the world and make disciples of all nations" Matthew 28:19. The Discipleship Training School is a requirement for applying as YWAM staff, and serves as a prerequisite to all other training programs and further work with photogenX. The DTS is offered at many YWAM locations all over the world. Some have a special focus in areas of ministry or nations. The photogenX DTS is for you if you desire to know God, are passionate about justice and are willing to engage in photography and other forms of communication in order to be a voice for the voiceless. Core content of the Discipleship Training School In the first 12 weeks of the school, outstanding speakers will teach you on knowing God and making Him known. Here are just a few of the topics: The character and nature of God Listening to God Knowing and communicating God's Word Biblical world view Prayer, intercession, spiritual warfare Missions Relationships What makes the photogenX DTS different? “…It's about setting aside time and being willing to listen to the cries of the oppressed by opening ones heart to the realities of the world, the purpose God has for the world, and finding out what part you have to play in the world. To me the big difference is that we aren't just training people to use photography or even just having a discipleship school. We are recognizing a widening conversation within the world about injustice and wanting to participate in that conversation. This is a starting point to enter into that ongoing conversation and begin to realize how God can actually use our lives to make a difference...” - Steve Schallert (photogenX Publish) The photogenX DTS is designed for those who are broken over the injustice of our world, want to know God more and are eager to use their gifts and talents to make a difference. We will have weekly photo classes taught by Susi Childers (founder) and other photographers and a basic weekly photo assignment. We accept photographers on all levels (beginners to advanced). Much of our conversation and prayer will be focused on injustice in our world and we hope to be able to gain various tools that will equip us to better engage with injustice. On your outreach you will be doing many different things including preaching, teaching, evangelism and mercy ministry. Many photogenX outreach teams have had opportunities to work on projects where they used photography, journalism, video and more. The photogenX DTS is geared towards 18-30 year olds. Equipment required: Digital SLR camera The 8-12 week field assignment Before you arrive, your staff will have researched locations, prayed and have a plan to present to you by the third week of the lecture phase. They will give you time to pray about your options and you will then tell them where you feel the Lord is leading you for your outreach. During lecture phase you will have team times to get prepared to go on outreach as a team. During the 8-12 week field assignment you may find yourself working in an orphanage in Cambodia, preaching and praying for the sick in India, ministering to prostitutes in Thailand, or caring for street children in the Philippines. These are only a few of many possibilities. Along the way you will put into practice what you have learned during lectures and photography training empowering others with the gifts that God has given you. Course Dates and fees: This school will start on April 7, 2011. The date for the end is yet to be determined, but generally we have a 12-week lecture phase and a 12-week outreach. Fees for the 12-week lecture phase of the school are approximately $4,210 (room, board and tuition). There are significant fee discounts for students from developing nations. Fees for the 12-week field assignment include airfares, transportation, housing and food, and they are estimated to be $4,500-$6,000. Meet Your School Leader Sharee Fox has been a part of YWAM for over 9 years working with the DTS, Bible Core Course, Personnel and Pastoral Care. She and her husband have taught the Bible and ministered to orphans, street kids and prostitutes in Latin America, Asia and Africa. She is passionate about people believing truth about God and themselves, restoration of the broken and being a voice for women and children who have experienced injustice. Experiencing restoration in her own life as a young adult has shaped much of her vision to see others restored. Sharee, Christian and their daughter Maiya joined the photogenX community the beginning of 2010 and presently reside in Kailua-Kona, HI.
